Inaugural Editorial to Journal of Hospital Management and Health Policy

The Journal of Hospital Management and Health Policy (JHMHP) is an open-access, peer-reviewed international academic journal. As the official journal of the Hospital Management Institute, Fudan University, it is published by AME Publishing Company. The journal represents our joint commitment to introduce and rethink the cutting-edge studies, hot research topics, and common challenges in the field of hospital management and health policy, with an attempt to summarize and share the relevant experiences in policy R&D, development, and implementation from an international perspective.

Along with the surge of Internet technology and artificial intelligence in the past few years, mobile health, medical robots, and medical big data have become hot research topics. Meanwhile, more traditional health policy-related considerations including medical insurance system design, economical and ethical evaluations of health policy, and accessibility of essential medical services have also provoked heated discussions among health authorities and scholars.

In hospital management, “Delicacy Management” is a widely recognized concept for further optimizing hospital management, whereas discipline construction/talent training, continuous quality improvement, informatization, salary and performance reviews, and control of medical cost are the eternal themes for hospital development. Meanwhile, with more stringent policies and rules on the compensation for medical expenses, even world-class hospitals are facing increasing pressure from operations. It is worth focusing on how medical output and management output can bring wider development spaces for these hospitals. In contrast, local hospitals which mainly serve their patients within a specific area may be more interested in introducing new technologies, increasing the efficiency of resource use, and thus forming a competitive advantage through service differentiation; these topics will also be explored in JHMHP.

We hope JHMHP will be a leading publication among all journals in the fields of hospital management and health policies. With the strong supports from our Editorial Board, our authors, and our readers, we firmly believe that this dream will become true in near future. We look forward to receiving your manuscripts.
